What fabric can Dylon be used on?

Cotton, linen and viscose will dye to the full shade shown on the pack. Mixtures of these with polyester will result in lighter shades. Polyester, nylon and other synthetics cannot be dyed. Wool and silk can be dyed with Dylon Hand Fabric Dye.

How do you dye fabric with Dylon?

Place the damp clothes in the washing machine and pop the unwrapped and opened DYLON Machine Dye pod directly on top. Set the machine to a full 40° C cycle. Don’t use the economy or pre-wash options. Run the same cycle again, this time adding washing detergent to rinse the dye out.

Is it possible to use DYLON fabric dye by hand? Yes, you can dye your clothes by hand, but only by using Dylon hand dye. Machine dye and wash and dye are therefore not suitable for dyeing by hand.

Leave your fabric in the dye for as little or as long as you like. The finished color will be slightly lighter than it looks like when wet. I recommend leaving it in for at least ONE hour, or longer.

How do you make homemade dye?

Mix 1 cup of salt with 16 cups of water and bring to a boil (or ½ cup of salt with 8 cups of water). Simmer your fabric in this solution for one hour prior to dyeing. (If you are making a plant/veggie based dye, mix 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water and follow the same process). When done simmering, run under cool water.

How do you use Dylon dye by hand?

Instructions For Dyeing By Hand:

  1. Weigh dry fabric.
  2. Using rubber gloves, dissolve dye in 500ml warm water.
  3. Fill bowl/stainless steel sink with approx 6 litres warm water (40°C).
  4. Stir in 250g (5tbsp) salt.
  5. Submerge fabric in water.
  6. Stir for 15mins, then stir regularly for 45mins.
  7. Rinse fabric in cold water.

Does tie dye have to sit for 24 hours?

Let the fabric sit for 2-24 hours. The longer you can let the fabric sit, the easier it will be to wash out loose dye from the fabric. The length of time you let the fabric sit is not overly critical.

Can you let tie dye sit for 2 days?

You definitely can let the tie-dye sit for too long, and it can leave you with very unpleasant effects that can ruin your tie-dye creation. We have lived this a lot at our workshop where we would forget a shirt for a few days or we were waiting to test it out.
