What should I do the day before a duathlon?
Have a good sleep 2 nights prior to the Duathlon. This will ensure you still feel good if you are nervous or sleepless the night before. Eat a good meal at lunch-time the day before to top up your carbohydrate stores, have a good dinner but nothing too heavy and eat a breakfast you are used to on race day.
How do you transition in duathlon?
- 1/ Keep it Simple: The less stuff you have in transition the better.
- 2/ Slow Down: Unless you’re in a draft-legal race you don’t need to sprint through transition.
- 3/ The Set-Up: Before your race, allow time to walk around the transition area and study the run-in, bike-out, bike-in and run-out areas.
Is a duathlon harder than a triathlon?

How does a beginner train for a duathlon?
Duathlon Training Plan
- Endurance session: 1 mile or 2 mile reps with a recovery of 90 seconds. It’s good to do a light jog, a minimum of three sets.
- Speed session: 400m or 800m reps, between 10 and 15 sets. With a 2 min recovery light jog, this helps the muscles to stay warm and to prevent the build up of lactic acid.
What do you wear to a sprint duathlon?
If it’s really cold clothing that covers your knees is the way forward. Cycling shorts and a technical tee are fine for a duathlon if you don’t have a Tri Suit. Probably best not to tackle a duathlon longer than sprint distance if you’re just wearing running shorts as they can get uncomfortable on the bike.
