What is the aim of EEDI?
The EEDI for new ships is the most important technical measure and aims at promoting the use of more energy efficient (less polluting) equipment and engines. The EEDI requires a minimum energy efficiency level per capacity mile (e.g. tonne mile) for different ship type and size segments.
What is required EEDI?
The Required EEDI is the maximum allowable value of the attained EEDI permissible for a specific ship type and size. The Required EEDI represents a minimum energy efficiency requirement for new ships depending on ship type and size.
How do you calculate EEDI?
What is EEDI? Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), formulated for new ships, is an index that estimates grams of CO2 per transport work (g of CO2 per tonne-mile). It can be expressed as the ratio of “environmental cost” divided by “Benefit for Society”.
What is EEDI and EEXI?
The EEXI is like its predecessor, the Energy Efficient Design Index (EEDI)—in effect since 2013—but applied to existing ships outside EEDI regulations. It specifically targets vessels above 400 GT that fall under MARPOL Annex VI. To set CO2 emissions standards, the EEXI uses the same methodology as the EEDI.
How can we reduce attained EEDI?
If the engines and other equipments work on fuel that produces less CO2, the vessel will be more energy efficient and will have lower attained EEDI value. If the ship makes more speed with the same amount of engine power, the ship will be more energy efficient. Higher ship’s speeds mean lesser attained EEDI value.
Who approves Seemp?
The SEEMP can be part of the Safety Management System (SMS) and the ISM audit, but does not need to be approved by the flag or RO. The SEEMP can either be hard copy or electronic. Class societies should check whether the SEEMP is ships specific and based on Resolution MEPC. 213(63).
How can I improve my EEOI?
The most direct way to reduce the EEOI is therefore to reduce speed. The slow steaming that is widely practiced today is therefore a very efficient way of reducing energy consumption. Yet, whether the slow vessel is more efficient when logistic, economic and other factors are also considered remains another issue.
What is EEOI in ship?
The Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) was developed by the IMO in order to allow ships to monitor the carbon emissions of their shipping activities. The EEOI is the total carbon emissions in a given time period per unit of revenue tonne-miles.
What does EEXI mean?
Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index
Introduction of the Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) During MEPC 76 in June 2021, the IMO adopted amendments to MARPOL Annex VI, introducing an Energy Efficiency Design Index for existing ships (EEXI).
What is IEEC?
International Energy Efficiency Certificate (IEEC)
How can ship fuel efficiency be improved?
You might be surprised how even small changes can boost your boat’s fuel efficiency.
- Use the right propeller.
- Adjust your “attitude”.
- Balance your load.
- Find the “sweet spot”.
- Cut Down the Weight.
- Cruise conservatively.
- Keep it maintained.
What is EEOI?
What do you need to know about the EEDI?
The EEDI requires a minimum energy efficiency level per capacity mile (e.g. tonne mile) for different ship type and size segments.
When was the EEDI made mandatory for ships?
The Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) was made mandatory for new ships and the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) for all ships at MEPC 62 (July 2011) with the adoption of amendments to MARPOL Annex VI ( resolution MEPC.203 (62) ), by Parties to MARPOL Annex VI.
Is there a model course on seemp for IMO?
IMO, together with the World Maritime University (WMU) have been developing a model course on SEEMP promoting the energy efficient operation of ships. The first draft of the model course was submitted to MEPC 62.
Why is self marking so important in eedi?
“Self-marking, amazing insights, allows me to build future lessons, great for report writing and parent interviews, so much more to say but Origin is on in Australia right now so need to get back to it.”
