Who is responsible for Openreach master socket?
Openreach are responsible for everything up to the master socket. That includes the master socket itself, but the removeable faceplate seems open to debate. However, if the line is damaged within the boundary of the property, then Openreach may charge you to fix it.
What is Openreach MK2?
The latest Mk2 version faceplate for super fast vDSL services such as BT Infinity. Designed to plug into a standard NTE5 telephone socket it is easy to fit, no rewiring is required as the faceplate fits in between the existing front lower faceplate and the rear of the NTE5 socket.
What is NTE5C?
The NTE5C MK2 is the latest type of socket that Openreach currently install, supplied as two pieces (rear plate with test socket, incoming line & extension connectors and front lower plate equiped with BT socket).
Can I move my phone master socket?
If you do need to move a phone socket, then simply wire one to your master socket, even if it’s a case of it being a few inches away. It’s designed to have extensions attached to it, and it’s not hard to attach them, It can be a bit fiddly for the unfamiliar.
Can I change a BT master socket?
Its not illegal, just against the terms of service. You can rip the socket out, or replace it with a non standard one. If you ever get a fault with it, they may charge if the socket is the cause of the problem.
Can I move my BT master socket myself?
You could move the Master Socket yourself however if you get things wrong BT will charge you to reinstate the wiring. Therefore, work should be completed by an experienced telephone engineer. The NTE 5 needs to be connected before any of your own extension wiring.
Can an electrician move a phone socket?
yes a normal electrician can do it. as long as you have a live phone line they can move it.
Can I replace a BT master socket?

Can I have 2 master phone sockets?
You could have multiple master or secondary sockets on the same line and this will not affect the REN capability – in BT’s case 4. Note that if you are close to an exchange and have a good quality line, you can usually get away with hanging 6 or more phone on the same line and they will all ring OK.
What to do if your BT Openreach box does not work?
Infinity (grey cable with broadband) is working. The microfilter does’nt work, unplug the microfilter and plug in just the black phone cable doesn’t work, remove screws and plug phone black cable into the test socking inside and phone works.. I’m not sure if I can replace the bottom bit myself due to the wiring.
