Is Megavalanche 2021 Cancelled?
Two and a half decades of Megavalanche and one of the few times this legendary race has been cancelled outright. Sadly, we may have to wait until 2021 to see the return of arguably the one race every mountain biker must do. Read the full press release from the Megavalanche organisers below.
How long does it take to complete the Megavalanche?
The exact route of the course may change from year to year, depending on terrain and weather conditions, taking riders between 20 minutes to over 1 hour to complete, but on average lasts 35-50 minutes.
Can anyone ride the Megavalanche?
The Megavalanche is a one of a kind event and although it will push your bike and body to the limit, I would recommend it to anyone. Just qualifying and completing it is rewarding enough. Not only is the location and scenery incredible, the race gives you a rare opportunity to line up next to the sport’s top guys.

The MegAvalanche is a downhill mountain bike marathon style race, starting on the glaciated summit of the Pic Blanc (3,300m/ 10,826 FEET) and descending to the lush meadows of the valley bottom at Allemont (720m/ 2,363 FEET), after some 2000 metres/ 4,726 FEET down and 30 km/ 18.6 MILES long.

Sign-up for the Megavalanche Alpe d’Huez on the engage-sports.com website. Registration is restricted to 2200 participants max, professionals and amateurs. The registration fee ranges from 67 euros to 75 euros + lift pass (47 euros for 6 days) + insurance (19.80 euros for 6 days).
