What is a commentary example?

When a golf announcer narrates a major golf tournament, describing each player’s shots and talking about his score, this is an example of commentary. When there is a DVD-director’s cut of a movie that is accompanied by the director explaining his choices, this explanation is an example of commentary.

What should a commentary include?

Writing commentary means giving your opinion, interpretation, insight, analysis, explication, personal reaction, evaluation or reflection about a concrete detail in an essay. You are “commenting on” a point you have made. Writing commentary is higher level thinking.

What does a commentary account mean?

Commentary is defined by The American Century Dictionary as “1) [a] descriptive account of an event or performance as it happens or 2) explanatory notes”.

Which Bible commentary should I use?

Pick a scholarly commentary, not a devotional/expository/popular commentary. A scholarly commentary will give greater depth and interact with the Biblical text in a much more serious way than a devotional commentary. Vernon McGee’s notes and Warren Wiersbe’s commentaries are not what you’re looking for.

What is the difference between a concordance and a Bible dictionary?

A Bible Concordance will list a subject or word and then list all the Bible verses which have that word in the verse. A Bible Dictionary is arranged by subject words as well, but will explain the subject.
